Multiple
formularies to meet local needs
MDsyncEMR
supports multiple formularies. This
means that all the major drugs and drug plans are covered.
Moreover, although our formularies have been customized for
Hawaii
's physicians, our technology can be easily adapted for use in
other locales.
How
does it work?
The MDsyncEMR
formulary solution consists of two major components, a drug database and a
database of algorithms that calculate the estimated co-payments for each of the
various insurance plans and provides other insurance related information.
The two components are fully integrated so that information can be seamlessly accessed from
within MDsyncEMR.
The
Multum Lexicon
MDSyncEMR includes accurate and timely drug information through integration
with the nationally-recognized Multum drug database, the “Multum
Lexicon.”
The Multum Lexicon is developed and maintained by Multum Information Services, Inc., a
Cerner company based in
Denver, Colorado.
In 1998 Multum received a patent for their innovative process of providing
patient-specific drug information.
Drug names, drug product
information, disease names and coding systems as well as generic names, brand
names, and common abbreviations are provided by the Multum database.
A comprehensive list of disease names and ICD-9-CM codes is also included.
In addition to providing
reliable information to healthcare providers, Multum provides information for
consumers.
Patient Education Leaflets contain easy-to-read information about
medications such as how to take medication, what to avoid while taking a
particular medication, what the side effects and drug interactions are, and
many more important, FDA-recommended sections

Multum, visit their website at: www.multum.com.
Insurance
Algorithms
MDsyncEMR
has combined the drug information from the Multum Lexicon with detailed
proprietary algorithms that calculate insurance co-payments and provide other
information related to the particular drug plan.
This information is invaluable in managing drug costs and patient expectations. Moreover,
the algorithms have been adapted to support the insurance rules in
Hawaii
as well as individual plans.
MDsyncEMR’s
multiple formulary technology combines the power of a nationally-recognized
lexicon standard with built-in intelligence adapted to local healthcare rules.
